The RISC-V Foundation has appointed Mark Himelstein as CTO.

Currently, RISC‑V boasts over 560 members across 50 countries and regions, and has been successfully adopted across numerous industries. As RISC‑V’s CTO, Mark will collaborate with the RISC‑V community to understand, define, and steer strategic technology directions—spanning everything from architecture to software and ranging from embedded systems to high‑performance computing—while balancing global perspectives and regional priorities.

Prior to joining RISC‑V, Mark Himelstein served as President of Heavenstone, a firm specializing in strategy, management, and technology consulting, offering hardware and software product architecture, analysis, guidance, and interim management services. Earlier, he founded Graphite Systems, Inc., which was acquired by EMC; at that time, he held the dual roles of Vice President of Engineering and CTO, leading the development of large‑scale data‑analytics solutions based on highly integrated flash memory. Before joining Graphite, Mark served as CTO at Quantum, Vice President of Solaris Development Engineering at Sun Microsystems, and held other senior technical leadership positions at Apple, Infoblox, and MIPS.
